The Plant
For Annie.
I am surrounded by god.
My roots
Unfurling
Untucking
Redoing
Remaking
Replacing
Stretching
I grow
This God
My water
And I drown
Only slightly
But I breathe
So I move
And I wrap
My body
Like ivy
Across bathroom tiles
I cover
The floor
In sea green moss
I stretch
To the roof
And raise it
As long as I have water
I have the air
That I need
But when the water
Stops
And my growth
Retreats
Like a winters day
That chases the sun
And I
Unmake,
Un-stretch
Recoil
Return
Redo
progress like a pinch of salt
So that from beneath the surface of my bathtub
I see the roof sigh and collapse once more
And all my retreat occurs
in the Space
of a breath.
